Dr Martin Humphry

Chief Executive Officer and Director

Martin was appointed CEO in March 2016 after previously holding the position of Phasefocus’ CTO.  Following the award of his PhD in the area of nanotechnology instrumentation, Martin was appointed post-doctoral research fellow at Nottingham University, and founded and led a spin-out company to commercialise a novel scanning probe microscope technology. An inventor on a number of the Phasefocus’ patent applications, Martin assumed successively higher levels of responsibility since he joined the company, including oversight of all of its product development and R&D activities.


Ben Edwards

Financial Controller

Ben is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) having graduated from the University of Sheffield with a Masters degree in Mathematics. Ben handles all the accounting, legal and regulatory functions for Phasefocus. He has previously worked in a variety of industries including Retail, Construction and Manufacturing ranging in size from £30m turnover SME businesses to those in excess of £1bn. During his career Ben has implemented new accounting software, grown finance teams, integrated foreign subsidiaries and deputised at board level.


Dr James Russell

Head of Innovation and Support

James joined Phasefocus in March 2011 after completing his PhD from the University of Nottingham in molecular self-assembly.
He worked directly on the company's early technical projects before taking increasingly managerial roles, firstly as Applications and Systems Development Manager during Livecyte's initial development and then as Head of Innovation and Support.
He is currently responsible for all the company's technical development and post-sales customer support.


Dr Richard Woolley

Head of Operations and Production

Richard came to Phasefocus in 2016 to head up the Operations and Production side of the business. He graduated from Birmingham University in 1998 and then joined QinetiQ as team leader on advanced weapons systems. His work with the military continued until undertaking a PhD in Nanotechnology at the University of Nottingham. During his PhD Richard joined a newly formed spin out from the group that commercialised nanotechnology instrumentation. After a number of years as Technical Director Richard went back into academia to develop his own research at an international level into atomically precise engineering, founding his own company. He has also acted as an executive officer for the Institute of Physics’s Nanoscale Physics and Technology Group and managed multimillion pound ATi research projects in automated lean production.


Tracey Zimmermann

VP Global Sales

With over 20 years’ experience in Sales and Marketing, Tracey began her Commercial career within the Life Science Division of Bio-Rad Laboratories, holding various positions in Sales, Product Management and Marketing, Applications Support and Service Support, with leadership roles at a regional and global level. She then moved to Cellomics Inc, establishing the new European office and spearheading  phenomenal sales growth for their high content system, in that region. Further Marketing, Product Management and Sales Management roles followed within the Cell Analysis group of GE Healthcare, where she spent more than 10 years, before joining Phasefocus in 2015.
