Label-free characterisation of the cell cycle

All cells in a time-lapse video may be analysed independently and simultaneously. For example, the graph below (A) shows, for one particular A549 cell, the time variation of the calculated projected nuclear volume throughout the cell cycle. The proposed stages of the cycle are characterised by changes in gradient, whilst mitosis is characterised by distinct peaks. Representative images of an individual cell (B) correlate with the graph.
