Phase Focus Virtual Lens® wins 2013 Microscopy Today award
The Phase Focus Virtual Lens®, a digital replacement for a microscope’s conventional image-forming optics, has been judged one of the ten best microscopy innovations in the 2013 Microscopy Today Innovation Award competition. The award was accepted by Professor John Rodenburg, Phase Focus’s co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, at a presentation ceremony at the Microscopy & Microanalysis 2013 Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The award recognises two innovations: Phase Focus’s new Virtual Lens-enabled soft contact lens power mapper; and a Virtual Lens-enabled demonstration reported in Nature Communications of a five-fold improvement in resolution beyond that available from an electron microscope’s conventional electron optics: http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/ncomms1733
The power mapping capability is available in Phase Focus’s Lens profiler instrument, now being used by ophthalmic lens manufacturers and vision research organisations world-wide to enable high precision metrology of the refractive power, thickness and oxygen transmissibility of soft contact lenses.
The Virtual Lens-Enabled lensless electron microscope innovation was demonstrated in partnership with Gatan Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of instrumentation and software used to enhance and extend the operation and performance of electron microscopes. Following further development, Gatan will make Virtual Lens-Enabled electron microscope products available via its world-wide sales and distribution network.
